Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will unveil the first phase of the futuristic Knowledge, Wellbeing & Innovation (KWIN) City plan on September 26.
KWIN City, spread across 2,000 acres, will be located between Dobbaspete and Doddaballapur on the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR).
The Department of Industries and Commerce, which is implementing the project, said KWIN City will be around 50 km from downtown Bengaluru and 45 minutes from the Kempegowda International Airport.

“The project is modelled after global innovation hubs like Singapore's Biopolis and the Research Triangle Park in the US,” said Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Industries MB Patil.
“The innovative city will be established on more than 2,000 acres, with the first phase being developed on 500 acres. There is potential to expand it to 5,000 acres gradually. The project, with an estimated investment of over Rs 40,000 crore, is expected to generate around 1,00,000 jobs,including direct and indirect employment,” Patil said.
He said that the city will focus on knowledge, health, and innovation, housing campuses of globally renowned institutions, partnerships with these institutions, medical centers, and healthcare services, as well as research and innovation hubs.

Sectors like innovation, biosciences, and semiconductors, which will play a critical role in the future, will be prioritised. The project is expected to create one lakh jobs. Patil said, "This initiative will position Bengaluru as a global leader.
"KWIN City is unique in its holistic approach to integrating knowledge, health, innovation, and research within a single, self-sustaining ecosystem. Unlike other planned centers that may focus on a single aspect, KWIN City combines world-class educational institutions, advanced healthcare facilities, cutting-edge research centers, and a vibrant startup culture, all supported by sustainable infrastructure and smar tconnectivity," said an official from the Commerce and Industries department.

Earlier, it was planned to be named Knowledge Health Innovation Research-City (KHIR-City), but the government later decided to change it to KWIN City after many pointed out that it could be pronounced as'kheer,' which means 'payasa' (pudding/porridge) in Kannada.
