External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Friday took a sharp dig at the United Nations, highlighting its inaction on terrorism and pointing to Pakistan’s attempts to shield terror groups at the global body.

Speaking at an event marking the 80th anniversary of the UN, Jaishankar said the global body’s work has been “gridlocked” due to the absence of urgent reforms.

He also criticised attempts to equate victims and perpetrators of terrorism, in an apparent reference to how India and Pakistan are sometimes hyphenated in global discourse on terror attacks.

“Few examples are more telling about the challenges facing the UN than its response to terrorism.
