MK Stalin shared a teaser of the state budget which will be presented on March 14

The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday has replaced the Indian rupee symbol “₹” with the Tamil letter “ரூ” as the logo for its state budget. The logo, which read “Ellorkkum Ellaam” (Everything for Everyone), was released by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin’s office.

This move comes amid the three-language policy war between the MK Stalin-led DMK government in Tamil Nadu and the Centre. This marks the first time a state has rejected the national currency symbol.

Tamil Nadu, which follows the two-language policy (Tamil and English), has opposed the three-language policy.  According to the Stalin government, it is an imposition of Hindi on the Tamil public. Tamil Nadu has also opposed the National Education Policy, which prescribes the three-language policy.
