India’s COVID-19 case tally exceeded 2.69 crores with 1,96,427 new cases reported, as per the health ministry’s May 25 update. New cases were below the two lakh mark for the first time in 41 days.
As many as 3,511 new deaths were reported (lowest in 21 days) in the last 24 hours, new recoveries were at 3,26,850 in the same period, the latest release showed.
More than 19.85 crore vaccine doses have been administered across India, according to the May 25 update, with 24,30,236 new vaccinations in a single day (highest in 13 days).
Of the total vaccinations administered to date, 78 percent are recipients of their first dose while 22 percent have received the second dose. Among states, Maharashtra administered the most vaccine doses at 2.10 crore, followed by Uttar Pradesh at 1.65 crores and Rajasthan at 1.62 crores.
India now has 25,86,782 active cases with a fall of 1,33,934 cases in 24 hours, as per the May 25 update. Karnataka has the highest number of active cases at 4,40,456 in the country followed by Maharashtra at 3,30,215 and Tamil Nadu at 3,01,580. These three states accounted for 41 percent of active cases in the country.
Tamil Nadu reported the most new cases at 34,867 in the last 24 hours, followed by Karnataka (25,311), Maharashtra (22,122), West Bengal (17,883) and Kerala (17,821). These five states accounted for 60 percent of all the new cases reported in India.
Maharashtra also reported the most 592 new deaths, as per May 25 update, followed by Karnataka (529), Tamil Nadu (404), Delhi (207) and Kerala (196). These five states accounted for 55 percent of all the new deaths reported across the country.
Dadra and Nagar Haveli/Daman and Diu, Ladakh and Lakshadweep did not report any deaths today.
The total recoveries in India now stand over 2.40 crore with the recovery rate at 89.3 percent. Karnataka recorded the most 57,333 new recoveries, followed by Maharashtra (42,320), Kerala (36,039), Tamil Nadu (27,026) and West Bengal (19,670).
Total COVID-19 deaths in India now stand at 3,07,231 as per May 25 update. The mortality rate stands at 1.1 percent with Punjab reporting the highest (2.5 percent). Over 20 lakh daily tests reported on May 24 with more than 33.25 crore tests carried out to date.
Globally, more than 16.79 crore COVID-19 cases have been recorded to date with 34.87 lakh deaths. Over 1.51 crore active cases have been reported across the world as on date with the US accounting for the most (37 percent), followed by India (17 percent).
