Greater Bengaluru’s first satellite township project in Bidadi: Consultant to prepare preliminary report

Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) plans to develop townships with the aim of establishing a technologically advanced and sustainable urban centre.

Tentative land has been identified for the development of new township across ten villages, covering 8,934 acres. These villages include Allalasandra, Kanchugaranahalli Kaval, Kanchugaranahalli, Gollarapalya, Kempaiahnapalya, Bannigere, Byaramangala, Mandlahalli, Hosuru, and Vaderahalli.

“The township will have 37 km economic corridors connecting GBIT to NICE Road, NH-204, NH-275, and the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR). The corridors will include transport networks, production centers, demand centres, typical cross-sections, junctions, and proposed locations for flyovers and grade separators” said a senior official.

“BMRDA, in its Revised Structural Plan – 2031, had identified eight growth clusters and four nodes within its planning area. We are now taking up development of townships to support Bengaluru’s urban expansion” he said.

To ease congestion in Bengaluru, the Karnataka cabinet approved the Greater Bengaluru Integrated Satellite Township between Bidadi and Harohalli on January 30. The cabinet has also proposed the development of satellite townships in Devanahalli, Nelamangala, Hoskote, Doddaballapur, Magadi, and Bidadi, with road and rail connectivity to Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, the Bidadi township project has been in discussion since 2005. In 2007, the state government roped in a real estate firm to develop the township, but the plan failed after the firm backed out.

Ramanagara, the home district of Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar, is also among the potential locations for Bengaluru’s second airport.

Shivakumar has advised Ramanagara district residents to hold onto their land, predicting a rise in its value. He stated that Ramanagara district will soon be renamed Bengaluru South district, with the official declaration pending approval from the central government. Urging people not to sell their land, he said its value would appreciate significantly.

"Although I can't give you money directly, I have helped increase the value of your property. I cannot put money in your pocket, but God has given me the power to increase your property values tenfold," Shivakumar had said.
