First session of new Lok Sabha from June 24-July 3; Speaker to be elected on June 26

The 18th Lok Sabha's first session will start on June 24, according to a statement made by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday, June 12.

The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will begin on June 24, said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

In the next Lok Sabha session, all elected MPs will also take an oath of office. Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha will be elected on June 26.

Following the start of the legislative session, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha will also be chosen. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its partners in the NDA are allegedly engaged in a hard bargain.

"First Session of 18th Lok Sabha is being summoned from June 24 to July 3 for oath/affirmation of newly elected members, election of Speaker, President’s address and discussion thereon. The 264th session of the Rajya Sabha will commence on June 27 and conclude on July 3," Rijiju said.
