First direct rail service linking Kashmir with rest of country to open soon

The service will not only provide all-weather connectivity but also reduce travel time between Srinagar and Jammu from six hours to 3-4 hours. Kashmir’s fruit growers will also get better access to outside markets, freed from their reliance on NH44, which suffers frequent disruptions.

Jammu: The much-awaited Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line (USBRL) connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India is almost complete and will soon see trains chugging back and forth on its tracks.

For the first time in the history of Jammu & Kashmir, trains will ply from the Jammu region to the picturesque Kashmir Valley, which means people across India will be able to experience seamless and hassle-free train travel to the Kashmir Valley.

On December 5, Northern Railway conducted a successful trial run of an electric train from Banihal to Khari Railway Station in Ramban district of Jammu.

The direct train service will not only provide all-weather connectivity but will also reduce travel time between Srinagar and Jammu from six hours to just 3 to 4 hours, providing substantial relief for commuters.
