India's regulator has granted restricted emergency use approval for two vaccines -- Covishield and Covaxin. The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in India has crossed 2.40 crore, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Pointing to the steep rise in coronavirus cases in neighbouring Maharashtra, KarnatakaHealth Minister Dr K Sudhakar appealed to the peopleto follow strictly COVID-19 protocol such as wearingface masks and social distancing. In a series of tweets, he also urged people above 60years of age and those with comorbidities to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible.
"More than 13,000 coronavirus cases have been found in the last 24 hours in neighbouring Maharashtra which bothers me," Sudhakar tweeted. The Minister's comments came even as Karnataka itself hasseen a sharp rise in the number of active cases in the last ten days. The active cases which stood at 5,824 on March 1 has touched7,456 on March 10
Appealing to the people to stay away from the crowd, the Minister emphasised on wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing at all the public functions and festivals considering it as a warning bell.

Delhi recorded 409 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the highest single-day rise in nearly two months, while the positivity rate rose to 0.59 per cent, according to health department data. The city's infection tally stands at 6,42,439, the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi Health Department stated.The death toll rose to 10,934 with three more fatalities, it said. The number of active COVID-19 cases in the city rose to 2,020 from 1,900 on Wednesday, while the positivity rate climbed to 0.59 from 0.52 per cent the previous day.The total number of tests conducted on Wednesday stood at 69,810, including 42,187 RT-PCR tests and 25,623 rapid antigen tests, the bulletin said. The number of people under home isolation climbed to 1,028 from 982 on Wednesday, it said, adding that over 6.29 lakh people have recovered from the infection till date. (PTI)

Moderna will submit to Thailand its application for approval for its COVID-19 vaccine this month, a health official said as the country gets ready for its mass vaccination drive. Surachoke Tangwiwat, a senior Food and Drug Administration (FDA) official, told Reuters that in addition to Moderna, India's Bharat Biotech had started sending documents for registration of its vaccine. Bharat Biotech's vaccine showed interim efficacy of 81% in late-stage clinical trials, the firm said this month. The FDA is expected to reach a decision this month on the vaccine of Johnson and Johnson, Surachoke said.Thailand has so far has approved the vaccines of Sinovac Biotech and AstraZeneca.It has administered about 36,000 of the 200,000 recently received doses of Sinovac's CoronaVac. Another 800,000 doses are due to arrive on March 25, for use mainly among health workers and high-risk groups..

With the addition of 2,515 new cases of COVID-19, the count of infections in Maharashtra's Pune district rose to 4.25 lakh yesterday, a health official said.
Eleven persons died of the infection during the day, raising the toll in the district to 9,341, the official said. Of 2,515 new cases, 1,352 were reported from the Pune Municipal Corporation limits, while 633 were detected in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, the official said.
As many as 1,335 patients were discharged from various treatment facilities during the day, the official added. Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol said at the start of February there were only 1,300 active cases but now the number has risen to 7,000 in Pune. (Input from PTI)

Daily cases being reported in India have been dropping consistently over the last couple of months. Thus, the reopening process is also speeding up.
