The novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, pandemic has spread across 185 countries and territories. Today is the twenty-ninth day of India’s nationwide lockdown, which has been extended till May 3. Confirmed COVID-19 cases in India stand at 20,471. The death toll from the outbreak in India is at 652. Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi have reported the highest number of cases.
Globally, there have been over 25.7 lakh confirmed cases of COVID-19. At least 1.7 lakh people have died so far. The doubling rate of COVID-19 cases is 14 days in Haryana as against 7.5 days on the national level. Our recovery rate is 57 percent whereas it is 16 percent (average) across India. We had placed orders for 1.1 lakh testing kits from two Chinese firms which have been cancelled. We have placed fresh orders for 1 lakh kits from South Korea out of which we have received 25,000 kits. Prices of these kits are half as compared to the Chinese kits.

Home Minister Amit Shah has said that safety of doctors at their work place is non-negotiable and that the government is committed to their cause while appealing to them to reconsider their proposed protest, prompting the IMA to withdraw its stir.
