India's COVID-19 recovery rate nears 60%
With number of coronavirus cases in India rising by the thousand every day, government data released on the country’s COVID-19 recovery rate indicates a ray of hope.
India's coronavirus patient recovery rate as of July 1 is 59.43 percent and it may soon touch 60 percent. This means, of the 5,85,493 coronavirus cases that have been registered in the country, 3,47,978 COVID-19 positive patients have recovered already. India’s total coronavirus death toll is 17,400.
The government announced the news through its official handle for coronavirus updates on July 1. The tweet mentioned the current COVID-19 situation in the country, including the recovery path of coronavirus patients, which has improved steadily since the lockdown was imposed on March 25.

Governments are trying to "manage the perception" about coronavirus infections and give a sense that the problem is not as bad as it is, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, asserting that it is important to accept the problem and fight it.
On Doctor's Day, he expressed solidarity with health workers and described them as "a nonviolent army" risking their lives to save people from the coronavirus pandemic.
He was in conversation with four Indian nurses working in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and India and heard their experiences and said people stood with them in these times of crisis.

Healthcare workers need PPE to prevent COVID-19 infection, not HCQ: Study
A study conducted in India recently has revealed that healthcare workersare less prone to contracting the novel coronavirus disease if they have adequate PPE kits. The same study has found that the use of malaria drug Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) does not have any significant contribution towards preventing the infection.
The study titled ‘Prevalence of flu-like symptoms and COVID-19 in healthcare workers from India' was conducted between March 2020 and May 2020, with the aim to assess the risks that coronavirus frontline workers are exposed to. It was published in the Journal of the Association of Physicians of India (JAPI).

COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra's Thane district have nearly doubled in the last 15 days and risen considerably since May 1, a data released by the authorities revealed.
In the last 15 days alone, the cases in the district have nearly doubled from 17,008 to 33,324, it stated.
