With NDA leading in over 180 seats as per the latest trends, a large hoarding declaring Bihar means Nitish Kumar has been set up in Patna.
The hoarding, near Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's residence, reads 'Bihar ka matlab Nitish Kumar' and displays a photo of the JD(U) chief along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Latest trends suggest the ruling NDA is leading in 186 seats and has surpassed the majority mark of 122 as counting is underway for the Bihar assembly election. The opposition Mahagathbandhan is way behind, leading in just 52 of the 243 seats in the assembly.
Prashant Kishor-led Jan Suraaj Party and the Mukesh Sahani-helmed VIP are trailing in all the seats they have contested.
Among key candidates, Mahagathbandhan CM face Tejashwi Yadav is trailing in Raghopur, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary (BJP) is ahead in Tarapur according to the latest trends. Folk singer and BJP debutant Maithili Thakur has taken a strong lead in Alinagar seat.
Earlier this morning, a striking poster was seen outside Nitish Kumar's residence featuring the Bihar CM standing beside a tiger. It was captioned 'Tiger abhi zinda hai' (tiger is alive).
Record voter turnout
Bihar, which voted in two phases November 6 and 11, recorded one of its highest turnouts in the state's history. The first phase witnessed a record 65.08% voter turnout. In the second phase, over 66% voter turnout was recorded.
Women voters outnumbered their male counterparts in the Bihar assembly elections. According to the provisional data released by the Election Commission, the turnout among women was 71.6% while that for men was 62.8%.
"Voters have also made history in independent India today. They cast the highest percentage of votes in all elections held since 1951, at approximately 66.9%. Women have expressed their complete faith in the Election Commission, resulting in the highest voter turnout ever, at 71%," Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said in a press briefing on November 11.
