IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has hired a US-based firm to deal with its staffing vendors for contract workers, Mint reported on August 5 citing people familiar with development.
This comes days after the company announced a largescale layoff.
Pantoon Services will now coordinate with more than two dozen vendors, ensuring do not have direct contact with the TCS' resource management group (RMG), which includes officials involved in hiring and placing candidates from staffing firms on contract, the report said.
The move is aimed at boosting transparency in the recruitment process, although vendors have expressed dissatisfaction. TCS' openings for contract workers will now be placed on Pontoon's platform, where the vendors will submit their candidates' profiles, after which Pontoon will conduct the first level of screening and then TCS will take the final call, the report said.
Moneycontrol couldn't independently verify the report.
Unnamed executives from staffing firms told the news publication that they have been engaging with Pontoon over the past two months and are no longer allowed to contact TCS for updates or clarifications.
TCS will continue to hire candidates for full-time positions through campus placements and through its internal HR, the report added. The contract workers are mostly hired for up to a year and remain on the staffing vendors' payroll. The vendors are paid between Rs 30,000 and Rs 1 lakh for every successful contract placement.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) recently announced plans to reduce its workforce by 12,000 employees, or approximately 2% of its workforce, with CEO Krithivasan stating the need to align automation with business strategy.
