Online grocer BigBasket, a Tata Enterprise, has appointed Manish Bajoria as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) as the company gears up for its next phase of scale and operations in India’s fast-evolving quick commerce and grocery delivery market.
Bajoria, a chartered accountant with over two decades of experience across Amazon, Hindustan Unilever, and most recently, Vini Cosmetics, will lead all financial operations at BigBasket, and is expected to play a key role in sharpening the grocer's financial strategy while it expands deeper into smaller cities and strengthens its backend infrastructure.
“We are happy to have Manish on board at a time when BigBasket is growing across many fronts,” said CEO Hari Menon. “His steady approach and ability to work through complex situations will be a real asset.”
The high-level appointment comes amid a broader reshuffle in India’s food and quick commerce sector. Just a day earlier, Eternal (formerly Zomato) announced the elevation of Aditya Mangla as CEO of its food delivery and ordering business and strategic mobility platform (SMP), replacing Rakesh Ranjan after a two-year stint. In December 2024, Moneycontrol had also exclusively reported that Blinkit, the Zomato-owned quick commerce major, had hired Flipkart veteran Vipin Kapooria as its CFO.
The timing of these moves underscores the intensifying race among players to capture a larger slice of India’s booming quick commerce market, projected to grow sixfold from $5 billion in FY25 to $30 billion by FY30, according to Bessemer Venture Partners. The forecast is a steep climb from just $300 million in FY22.
According to a June report by Motilal Oswal, Blinkit currently leads the space with 46% market share, trailed by Zepto at 29% and Swiggy’s Instamart at 25%.
With increasing investor scrutiny on margins and operational efficiency, top-level finance and business leadership is becoming a key differentiator. Bajoria’s prior stints managing large P&Ls, driving digital transformation, and building governance frameworks are likely to be vital as BigBasket doubles down on execution.
“I’m excited to join BigBasket at a time when the company is scaling rapidly and redefining the grocery and convenience ecosystem in India,” Bajoria said.
The company recently revamped its supply chain to enable faster order fulfilment and now processes nearly 8 million customer orders every month across over 400 cities.
