Farmers build illegal structures on notified land near Jewar airport; administration serves demolition notice

Around 200 farmers have been served with notices for putting up illegal structures on their land, which is set to be acquired. This is generally done to claim higher compensation, as the government gives more money for land that has buildings or structures on it.

The Gautam Budh Nagar district administration has issued notices to around 200 farmers from six villages for constructing illegal structures on land notified for the second phase of the Noida International Airport.

Officials said that in the notice, farmers who have erected illegal structures have been warned of action and the demolition of the illegal structures. Farmers will also have to pay for the demolition work, officials said.

According to norms, any construction, sale, or purchase is not allowed after the issue of a gazette notification on the land acquisition process of the said land. The notification to acquire 1,363 acres of land for Phase 2 of the Jewar Airport was issued in November 2022.
