The Gautam Budh Nagar district administration has issued notices to around 200 farmers from six villages for constructing illegal structures on land notified for the second phase of the Noida International Airport.
Officials said that in the notice, farmers who have erected illegal structures have been warned of action and the demolition of the illegal structures. Farmers will also have to pay for the demolition work, officials said.
According to norms, any construction, sale, or purchase is not allowed after the issue of a gazette notification on the land acquisition process of the said land. The notification to acquire 1,363 acres of land for Phase 2 of the Jewar Airport was issued in November 2022.
A senior official of the Gautam Budh Nagar district administration said that in the past few months, several instances of illegal construction being done on the land notified for the second phase of the Jewar Airport have been reported.
"The administration has issued notices to around 200 farmers for building illegal structures on their land, which is set to be acquired for the airport. People generally do this to claim higher compensation, as the government gives more money for land that has buildings or structures on it. However, this advantage is given to only those who built such structures before their land was notified for acquisition for development projects," the official told Moneycontrol.
He added that if anyone constructs anything after the land is evaluated, notified by the government, and is set to be acquired, then it is considered an illegal act, and action can be taken against the person.

The farmers have also been warned that they will have to face action if they construct anything on the said land. Under Phase 2 of the Noida International Airport project, the administration has to acquire 1,363.45 hectares of land. Of this, around 1,185 hectares are private land spread across the six villages of Ranhera, Dayanatpur, Karoli Bangar, Birampur, Kureb, and Mundhera.
The land acquisition process is likely to displace around 3,800 families. The administration is likely to spend Rs 2,891 crore on land acquisition for the second phase. Of this, it has already received Rs 1,084 crore from the Uttar Pradesh government. The land acquisition process for Phase 2 was started in November 2022.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), the agency that is helming the project, Arun Vir Singh, had told Moneycontrol that the first phase of the Noida International Airport is expected to be completed by September 30, 2023. He had said that around five million passengers are expected on day one of the functioning of the new airport.
