Amid escalating Indo-Pak tensions, the Indian real estate sector, through its apex body, the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI), has submitted a proposal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlining its preparedness to commence the construction of housing, military infrastructure, or any other facilities as directed by the Government, with a commitment to accelerated timelines.
The realtors’ body also expressed the real estate sector’s solidarity and preparedness to assist the Government in any infrastructure-driven initiatives required to be undertaken in the service of the nation at the testing time of India-Pakistan relations.
Tensions escalated after Indian armed forces early on April 7 carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base in Muridke, in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam.
In its letter to the Prime Minister, CREDAI conveyed that India’s real estate sector with its widespread developer base, skilled workforce, and execution strength across regions is well-positioned to support the Government in any redevelopment, housing, or infrastructure projects that may be required particularly in regions affected by conflict or in urgent need of development.
Shekhar G. Patel, President, CREDAI, said that at this moment where the nation stands united, CREDAI reaffirms its commitment to nation-building.
“Through our Pan-India developer network, technical capabilities, and skilled workforce, we are fully prepared to support any infrastructure-led initiatives that may be required in national interest. We have already initiated the process by reaching out to member developers across the country and identifying key vendors to ensure swift and effective support wherever required,” Patel wrote in the letter.
CREDAI’s proposed plan of action
CREDAI proposed to initiate construction of housing, military infrastructure, or any other facilities mandated by the Government within accelerated timelines. Pre-designed, terrain-responsive layouts will be developed to support swift on-ground execution while minimizing lead time and ensuring quality delivery, the developers’ body said.
“CREDAI will compile a Pan-India list of member developers along with trained civil engineers, construction workers, architects, and urban planners ready for immediate deployment. The association will also coordinate with trusted suppliers to ensure timely access to critical materials and equipment at short notice,” the CREDAI’s proposal said.
It added that the developers’ body can also prepare a comprehensive action plan, including a centralized registry of participating developers, planners, suppliers, and workforce teams.
