US mkts end higher on strong economic data

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended up 93 points at 11671. The Nasdaq Composite was up 39 points at 2691.5 and S&P 500 up 14 points at 1272.

The US markets scored its strongest percentage gain in a month on back of strong economic data. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended up 93 points at 11671. The Nasdaq Composite was up 39 points at 2691.5 and S&P 500 up 14 points at 1272. Total volumes traded on NYSE stood around 1.1 billion shares after trading 500-600 million for last 1 week or so. US Advancing Sectors: Financials rose 2.3%, Telecom was up 1.4% and Consumer Discretionary up 1.2%. European markets ended higher: CAC was up 2.5% and DAX up 1.1%. FTSE closed on Monday. Asian markets gained in the opening trade; Nikkei was up 1.5% (was closed yesterday), Straits Times up 0.4% and Kospi up 0.3%. Taiwan and Shanghai were flat. SGX Nifty rose 0.5%.
