The benchmark Nifty started the session above 5350 level and the Sensex added more than 200 points in opening trade, following positive global cues. Egypt President Muhammad Hosni Sayyid Mubarak resigned post 30-years and handed over control of the country to the military, which lifted the global markets higher.
Tata Motors and Tata Motors DVR were up 5% each post strong quarterly numbers. Its consolidated profit after tax jumped by 3.7 times at Rs 2,424 crore and operating profit margin too improved at 14.2% versus 11.4% (YoY). Among frontliners,ICICI Bank, IDFC, Maruti, Hero Honda, M&M, Jaiprakash Associates, L&T, Sesa Goa, Sterlite, JSPL, Reliance Power and Axis Bank were on buyers' radar. However, Hindalco lost 2% post below expected numbers. Reliance Industries and Reliance Infrastructure too were down. Reliance Communications tanked 4% after ADAG concall held on Saturday. At 9:17 hours, the 50-share NSE Nifty was trading at 5,360, down 50 points and the 30-share BSE Sensex rose 166 points to 17,894. The CNX Midcap went up 76 points to 7,560 and the Nifty Junior gained 131 points at 10,537. About 766 shares advanced as against 103 shares declined on National Stock Exchange. Midcap & Smallcap space: Aban Offshore fell 2% on disappointing numbers while IVRCL Infrastructure gained 3% post good set of numbers. Mahindra Satyam rallied 6% ahead of numbers today. Parsvnath Developers gained 4%, which tanked 40% last week. Apollo Tyres was up 4%. Kingfisher Airlines went up 2%. However, Shree Renuka Sugars was down 0.8% and DB Realty lost 7%. _PAGEBREAK_ Asian markets were trading higher. Shanghai and Kospi rose 1.5%. Hang Seng, Nikkei, Straits Times and Taiwan went up nearly 1%. _PAGEBREAK_ Global markets gained post Egypt President Mubarak resigned. The us markets posted 10th weekly gain in 11 weeks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 44 points or 0.36% at 12,273; it was up 1.5% for week and up 6% year-to-date (YTD). The Nasdaq Composite was up 19 points or 0.68% at 2,809; it went up 1.5% for week and up 5.9% YTD. The S&P 500 Index rose 7 points or 0.55% at 1,329; it was up 1.4% for week and, up 5.7% YTD.
