The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is working on a nationwide Global Capability Centre (GCC) framework to address issues regarding availability of talented personnel and also to boost establishment of these centres in Tier 2 cities, a senior government official said on June 30.
This follows a meeting held by ministry officials earlier in the day.
“One of the major issues of the GCC industry is the availability of talented personnel — talent which is customised for the requirement or the industry. How do you create the pipeline?,” the official said.
The plan to create a GCC framework was first announced in the Union Budget 2025 in February.
As part of this effort, the government plans to engage with GCCs to understand their needs and is keen on creating centres similar to the IIT Madras Research Park (IITMRP) and Gati Shakti University to enhance skilling initiatives.
At Gati Shakti University, the government recently partnered with Airbus to provide company-specific training for interested candidates. “We want to do GCCs by GCC,” the official added.
The government also plans to consult with states for creating the GCC framework. “States will be consulted to create a similar structure akin to the Telecom Right of Way (permissions system),” the official said.
Earlier in the day IT Ministry and Ministry of Youth and Sports announced My Bharat 2.0, a centralised platform for connecting youth to developmental/volunteering opportunities, events, programmes, mentors, and communities’ programs.
IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya and others were present.
