Two weeks after commencing bookings of the facelifted Creta, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) on January 16 launched the model with the prices starting from Rs 10,99,900 (ex-showroom) for the base version going up to Rs 19,99,900 (ex-showroom) for the top-spec version.
The midsize Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), which will be built at the South Korean carmaker's Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu, will be pitted against the Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Grand Vitara, and the Honda Elevate.
The 2024 Hyundai Creta will be available in seven variants and will be offered with three engine options - 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. Transmission options for this model will comprise 6-speed manual, 6-speed iVT, 6-speed iMT, 6-speed AT and 7-speed DCT.
Un Soo Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. affirmed that Hyundai's commitment to India remains "unwavering".
“With over 9 lakh customers since its launch (in 2015), the Hyundai Creta has made India ‘Live the SUV Life’. This model accounts for 26 percent of our sales and continues to lead the mid-size SUV market with a share of 31 percent,” stated Kim.
He also noted that the contribution of the SUV segment in the domestic Passenger vehicle (PV) market accelerated from 14 percent in 2015 to 49 percent in 2023. He also revealed that SUVs accounted for 60 percent of HMIL’s sales during last calendar year.
The revamped version of Hyundai Creta will be equipped with over 70 safety features, including 36 standard features such as six airbags, electronic stability control, and all-wheel disc brakes. It will also be having as dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS.
“We are confident that with the launch of the new Hyundai Creta, we will continue to grow Hyundai’s legacy in India," added Kim.
Since January 2, 25,000 units of the refreshed Creta have been booked with 60 percent of the orders being generated from manual transmission version and the remaining 40 percent from automatic transmission one. While 55 percent of booked models is petrol-driven, remaining 45 percent is run on diesel.
Defined by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) as SUVs between 4,000 mm and 4,400 mm in length, and priced less than Rs 20 lakh, midsize SUVs constituted 13.5 percent of the market in FY23. Nearly 523,967 midsize SUVs were sold in a total passenger vehicle market of 3,890,114 units during the last financial year, as per SIAM data.
In this segment, the sales were led by Hyundai Creta (150,372 units), followed by Kia Seltos (100,132 units) during FY 2023. The midsize SUV segment grew 30 percent at 523,967 units during FY 23 over 404,091 units in FY22.
