Foreign institutional investors (FII/FPI) were net buyers on March 26, purchasing shares worth Rs 2,240.55 crore while domestic institutional investors (DII) were net buyers of shares worth Rs 696.37 crore, provisional data showed.
During the trading session of March 25, FIIs net bought shares worth Rs 14,316.32 crore and sold shares worth Rs 12,075.77 crore. DIIs purchased shares worth Rs 12,416.37 crore and sold shares worth Rs 13,112.74 crore.
For the year so far, FIIs have been net sellers of shares worth Rs 1.47 lakh crore, while DIIs have net bought Rs 1.78 lakh crore worth of shares.
As for the trade today, benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex slumped, snapping a seven-day rally, as selling in financial names, along with major oil and gas stocks, dragged the markets deep into the red.
At close, the Sensex fell 728.69 points or 0.93 percent to 77,288.50, while the Nifty dropped 181.80 points or 0.77 percent to 23,486.85. Market breadth remained weak, with 808 shares advancing, 2,799 declining, and 78 unchanged.
The broader market continued to show weakness, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 falling 0.6 percent and 1 percent, respectively. Among sectors, Nifty Auto, which remained in positive territory for most of the session, pared gains to close flat.
The rest of the market stayed under pressure, with all 12 other sectoral indices ending in the red. Nifty Bank, PSU Bank, Oil and Gas, and Pharma were the worst hit, each falling over a percent, while Nifty IT slipped 0.98 percent. Losses in FMCG, Energy, Infrastructure, and Metal were less severe but still weighed on sentiment.
