The Lok Sabha passed the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Bill on August 7, bringing India closer to a legislation that specifically lays down provisions for safeguarding personal data.

The Bill is set to come up in the Rajya Sabha on August 9. If it is passed, the Bill will become a law, after the President’s assent.
