Ethanol blending in petrol reaches highest ever level of 18.2% in December

In the current Ethanol Supply Year (ESY), ethanol blending has reached 16.4 percent, compared to 10.7 percent last year.

India achieved the highest-ever ethanol blending of 18.2 percent in petrol in December, oil ministry data shows, as the country steps up effort to increase the share of alternative fuels to meet its energy demand.

The ethanol blending level in petrol was 11.1 percent in December 2023, data shows. In the current Ethanol Supply Year (ESY), ethanol blending reached 16.4 percent compared to 10.7 percent in the previous year.

Under the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme, the government is targeting 20 percent ethanol blending in petrol by ESY 2024-25, which ends in October 2025.

Ethanol, a biofuel, is mixed with petrol, cutting down on fossil fuel consumption and reducing harmful carbon emissions that contribute to climate change and health issues.
