JSW Energy, a private power producer and a part of the JSW Group, reported a 27 percent year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit for the third quarter owing to lower revenues from thermal and hydropower plants.
Profit declined to Rs 168 crore in the three months ended December 31, 2024, the Sajjan Jindal-led company said in a BSE filing on January 28. JSW Energy posted a profit of Rs 231 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.
Revenue declined to Rs 2640 crore in Q3 (FY25) from Rs 2661 crore a year earlier. The company said this was because incremental sales from renewable capacity addition and Utkal Unit -1 were offset by lower short-term realisation at Ratnagiri and Vijayanagar plants.
Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) decreased 9 percent to Rs 1115 crore from Rs 1229 crore a year earlier. The EBITDA margin was 42.2 percent compared to 46.2 percent during the same quarter last year.
The company had an installed operational capacity of 8,117 MW, according to an investor presentation issued on January 28 and an additional 7,570 MW of capacity under construction. By the end of financial year 2025, JSW Energy will have a total operational capacity of nearly 10 GW, it said.
In Q3 of FY25, JSW Energy’s net generation rose 10 percent YoY to 6.75 billion units (BUs) from 6.12 BU. Net renewable generation was up by 18 percent YoY at 1.6 BUs and total thermal generation was up 8 percent YoY at 5.1 BUs, according to the company's presentation.
The results came after market hours. Shares of JSW Energy closed at Rs 504 a piece on the NSE on January 28.
