India’s largest information and technology services company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced on March 29 that it has started a hiring program for freshers, bringing relief to young engineering graduates of the country.
The Mumbai-headquartered firm said it will hire for three categories -Ninja, Digital, and Prime. The Ninja category offers a package of Rs 3.36 lakh per annum for various roles while the Digital and Prime categories offer Rs 7 lakh and Rs 9-11.5 lakh per annum, respectively.
In the third quarter of FY24, the firm’s total workforce declined for the second straight quarter, the quarterly results showed. Its headcount fell by 5,680 to a total of 6,03,305 employees in the third quarter. However, the attrition rate came down to 13.3 per cent.
The IT firm has asked for applications from BTech, BE, MCA, MSc and MS batch of 2024. The last day to apply is April 10 and tests will be held on April 26, according to the career page of the company's website. The applicants will be provided jobs under the three categories depending on their test results.
Candidates should have a minimum 60 per cent or 6 CGPA throughout academics and in the highest qualification. They should not have any backlogs or ATKT and should have completed the course in the stipulated period of time. Maximum experience of 2 years and candidates in the age group of 18 to 28 will be allowed. Applicants with a gap of 2 years are also allowed.
However, the company has not yet mentioned how many jobs will be offered.
The management said in January that the process to recruit freshers for the financial year 2024-25 had begun but it is now that the company is visiting campuses.
“We have commenced our campus hiring process for the next year and see tremendous excitement among freshers to join TCS,” Milind Lakkad, chief HR officer, TCS had said during December earnings call. He added that it would be difficult to specify the number of hires, although, it would be "a big number." For FY2023-24, TCS had a target of hiring 40,000 freshers.
In January, rival Infosys said it saw no immediate campus requirement. Reports, however, have said the Bengaluru-based IT player hired for niche roles in February.
In February, industry body NASSCOM said the tech industry was poised to create 60,000 new jobs in the financial year 2023-24, taking the total to 5.43 million employees. This pales in comparison to the 270,000 jobs that the sector created in the previous fiscal.
