In consultation with all stake holders on MDR issue: Pradhan

Oil Ministry is meeting with OMCs, the Finance Ministry, dealers, bankers to resolve MDR issue, said Dharmendra Pradhan, Oil Minister.To promote cash-less transactions, the government had waived the merchant discount rate (MDR) on fuel purchase post demonetisation for consumers. But after the expiry of the 50-day window, the banks have decided to levy MDR on petrol pump owners.

The mechanism to resolve the MDR issue is being worked out, he said.

Pradhan He further assured that there will be no burden on consumers for digital transactions at petrol pumps.He said that banks and OMCs are discussing  the MDR issue and that digital transaction facility will continue at petrol pumps.Watch accompanying video for more details.
