Sources in the power ministry have told CNBC-TV18 that the proposal for import duty on power plant equipment is alive and is being considered by the cabinet.


There is, however, no timeline set by the cabinet to decide on the duty.
Referring to the fine imposed by four states on Reliance Power's plant in Krishnapattinam in Andhra Pradesh, sources said such disputes can only be resolved by the parties bound by the power purchase agreement and that the ministry had no role in it.
Reliance Power's 4,000 MW plant in Andhra Pradesh, which has been in a limbo for last nine months, was slapped with a fine of Rs 400 crore each by four states last week.
