Commodities@Moneycontrol: Sugar export duty likely to be scraped

Domestic consumption is estimated at 26 million tonnes, and markets are betting on 1.5 million tonnes of exports in the next 6-7 months.

Sugar output grew to 29.5 million tonnes, which was nearly 45% more that what we had in previous year. However, the base was lower in 2017 and overall output was the lowest in the past 6-7 years. Although domestic consumption is estimated at 26 million tonnes, markets are positive on seeing 1.5 million tonnes of exports coming in the next 6-7 months.
