In a first-of-its-kind order, the Supreme Court (SC) has directed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Idea Cellular and Star Network to deposit Rs 50 lakh each for hearing their dispute, reports CNBC-TV18.
The SC move comes after the Attorney General on Thursday, in an entirely different and unrelated case, suggested the apex court slap pre-hearing costs on big corporate houses indulging in protracted litigations, in a bid to contain the number of such cases and the resultant backlog.
The BCCI has been in a legal tussle with Idea and Star over the infringement of broadcasting rights.Watch video for more...
