FinMin not 'impressed' by applicants for SEBI chief post

Finance Ministry, it seems, is not impressed with applications received for the post of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Chief. As per sources, the Selection Committee might invite ‘suitable’ candidate with high stature for the post. The Committee might look outside the criteria of an IAS to find the appropriate person. The last date for application for the post is October 7, which could be extended if needed. The current Selection Committee includes Cabinet Secretary, Finance Secretary and Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) Secretary. The applicants received included names like Ramesh Abhishek, Subir Gokarn, Rajeev Kumar Agarwal, Thomas Mathew and Arvind Mayaram.
