The festive season has begun, and so has the schedule of bank holidays as per the RBI calendar. This month will witness several days when banks across India remain closed. On certain other days, however, closures will be limited to specific states.
For instance, October 2, 2025, is a gazetted holiday for all banks-public and private alike. But there is some confusion about today's status. According to the Hindu calendar, devotees are observing Mahanavami, the ninth day of the ongoing Navaratri festival that began on September 22.
So, are banks closed today? The answer depends on where you live. The RBI calendar notes that apart from nationwide holidays, banks may also shut in particular states in line with local customs and festivals. This means that while Mahanavami is marked in some regions, banking operations continue as usual in others.
