The Hyundai Creta continues to be the South Korean carmaker’s bestselling vehicle and, while not that old, the Creta is due for a facelift. Test-mules of the new car have been spotted on Indian roads and despite the heavy camouflage, certain details are visible.
On the design front, the new Creta is expected to get an overhauled exterior including new vertically stacked headlamps, a new grille, new front and rear bumpers, tweaked tail lamps as well as a new set of alloy wheels. The profile isn’t expected to change much, but expect the Creta to look completely new.
The interior is likely to be updated as well. The instrument cluster and infotainment screen will be mounted on a single panel, like for many new cars these days.
The dashboard could be tweaked for a classy upmarket feel, complete with a new dual-tone interior colour scheme. Other features could include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone temperature control, USB Type-C ports and wireless charging pads.
Safety features will include a 360-degree camera, ADAS suite, traction control, ESP, hill hold assist, front and rear parking sensors, puddle lamps and connected car tech.
Powering the new Creta is expected to be the new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, which also powers the Kia Seltos, the Hyundai Alcazar and the Hyundai Verna. Output figures on the Alcazar and Verna, for context, measure 160 hp of maximum power and 253 Nm of peak torque.
This powertrain is, however, expected to be added to the already existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engines. These generate 115 hp/143 Nm and 116 hp/250 Nm, respectively.
Transmission options continue to include a 6-speed manual, 6-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT), 6-speed automatic, a CVT automatic and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
As far as rivals go, the Creta will continue to take on the Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Toyota Urban Cruiser as well as the Volkswagen Taigun. Expect a slight bump up in prices from the current range of Rs 10.87 lakh to Rs 19.20 lakh, ex-showroom.
