Angelina Jolie has long been the epitome of Hollywood elegance, her beauty defined by sculpted cheekbones, feline eyes, and an otherworldly glow. But what exactly is the secret behind her luminous skin and effortlessly glamorous presence?
In an interview with InStyle, Jolie revealed the skincare expert she’s trusted since childhood: Dr Rhonda Rand. Introduced to her by her mother after experiencing her first scar, Jolie has remained loyal to the dermatologist’s minimalist, natural-first philosophy. “Having someone who encourages me to keep things as natural as possible has really helped me,” she shared.
Recently, in an exclusive Refinery29 interview, Dr Rand finally pulled back the curtain on Jolie’s skincare regimen—and, spoiler alert, it’s refreshingly simple. “It’s really just sunscreen, proper cleansing with a mild, gentle cleanser, antioxidants, and sometimes glycolic acids. Some alpha hydroxy acids are great too, and they’re very natural. She doesn’t need harsh scrubs or chemical-heavy products,” Dr Rand revealed.
A barely-there approach to makeup
Less is more in Jolie’s beauty playbook. According to Dr Rand, the actress avoids makeup when she’s not working, allowing her skin to breathe. And when she does wear it, she makes sure to remove every trace at the end of the day.
“Her makeup artist is very careful about what goes on her skin and takes good care of it when she’s working. When she travels, she always brings a solid skincare routine with her—think alpha hydroxy acids, antioxidants, and a chemical-free antioxidant sunscreen,” Dr Rand explained.
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen
Jolie may have inherited her mother’s olive complexion, but she’s never been one to chase a deep tan. “She’s been diligent about sunscreen since she was young. She understands how damaging the sun can be, not just for aging but for pigmentation issues as well,” Dr Rand said.

In addition to SPF, Jolie takes extra precautions—staying hydrated, wearing protective hats, and sticking to shade when possible.
Keeping it low-key with treatments
While many celebrities rely on aggressive treatments, Jolie keeps things subtle. “We occasionally do a light laser resurfacing for a glow boost, but that’s about it,” Dr Rand noted. “It’s a step above a facial, but nothing too intense.”
She added that Jolie sometimes develops pigmentation due to pregnancy or extended time in sunny climates, which they treat with photofacials or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy.
Skincare through life’s changes
After testing positive for the BRCA1 gene, Jolie underwent preventative surgery to remove her ovaries, leading to early menopause.

While hormonal shifts can impact the skin, Dr Rand reassured that with the right approach, it’s possible to maintain radiance. “It all comes down to hydration and using quality products—think antioxidants, alpha hydroxy acids, and retinol,” she advised.
