For months, the Internet has been screaming: Walk 10,000 steps a day! But for many, like me, that figure can feel just out of reach. However, science now says that you may not need that many steps to stay healthy. Recent research finds that around 7000 daily steps is enough for major health gains like heart health, lighter mood, and clear thinking, without a pricey gym pass or punishing routine. A recent (large-scale) study published in The Lancet Public Health followed more than 50,000 people from diverse age groups and found that those who walked around 7000 steps a day lowered their risk of early death by up to 50% compared to those living a largely sedentary life. Here are 5 reasons why 7000 steps are good for your health:

Promote heart health: Walking briskly raises your heart rate in a way that strengthens your cardiovascular system without jarring the joints. This daily routine supports better blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Unlike more intense workouts, walking offers sustainable benefits with minimal strain. It is good for older adults or beginners looking to ease into fitness.
