GLP-1 drugs for weight loss like Mounjaro and Wegovy are seeing a positive response in India. While they’re helping people shed kilos, some are also experiencing severe hair fall, which has become a cause for concern.

Delhi-based dermatologist Dr Kiran took to Instagram to explain the problem. “Rapid or medication-assisted weight loss (like with GLP-1s) can push hair into a shedding phase called telogen effluvium. This happens when your body prioritises essential organs over hair growth, especially if nutrient levels drop,” she said.

The doctor further emphasised the importance of treating it early because once excess hair fall happens, it can be difficult to reverse. Hence, she recommended the following ways to treat the problem better:
