Singer Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains will soon return to Assam, and his fans can pay their last respects. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed that Zubeen's mortal remains will be kept at Guwahati's Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex (Sarusajai Stadium) for the late singer’s fans.
He confirmed in the tweet that fans are welcome from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to pay their last respect. Additionally, arrangements have been made to control the crowd.
The CM tweeted, "The Government of Assam, with deep sorrow, informs that the mortal remains of Shri Zubeen Garg, an artist larger than life, a cultural icon, filmmaker, and the eternal heartthrob of millions, will be kept at Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex (Sarusajai Stadium) tomorrow, September 21, from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, for friends, followers, and admirers to pay their last respects.”
The tweet continued, “All are requested to extend their cooperation in ensuring that the final journey of Assam’s beloved son is conducted with dignity and becomes a farewell to be remembered for all time.”
The chief minister also tweeted that a cabinet meeting to choose the location for the late singer's cremation will take place on Sunday at 6 p.m.
Additionally, the Assam government has declared a three-day state mourning period (September 20–22) to mourn the death of Zubeen Garg. According to the Assam CMO, there won't be any public celebrations, ceremonial events, or official entertainment during that time.
While fans from all over the nation have been sending condolences, a large crowd has gathered outside Zubeen Garg's home in Guwahati to catch one last look at their favourite singer.
For the unversed, Zubeen Garg died in a tragic scuba diving accident in Singapore on Friday. He was supposed to perform on September 20 and was in the city for the North East India Festival.
He sang a number of well-known songs in Bengali, Hindi, and Assamese. The song Ya Ali from the Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut film Gangster was one of his best-selling releases.
