Virat Kohli and his better half Anushka Sharma, visited the holy town of Vrindavan one day after the legendary cricketer announced his retirement from Test cricket. In what seemed to be a moment of reflection after a significant turning point in Kohli's cricket career, the couple went to see the renowned spiritual guru, Premanand Ji Maharaj, early on May 13, 2025.
Amidst this, Virat Kohli's older interview where he was heard saying "Do I look the pooja path types?" is going viral.
A video of the couple's visit was posted by ANI, showing Kohli and Anushka pulling into Vrindavan in a local taxi. In keeping with a low-key and quiet demeanour, both wore simple, modest clothing and had face masks on.
Virat Kohli has been more vocal about his spirituality in recent years. Alongside Anushka Sharma, he has made several spiritual pilgrimages, including one to the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain in 2023. The couple has also been spotted at Neem Karoli Baba's ashram in Uttarakhand, as well as other holy sites across India.
During a press conference at the T20 World Cup in 2016, Kohli had a light-hearted moment in response to a question about whether he engages in prayer to stay calm in high-pressure situations.
At the time, a reporter had asked Kohli if he did "pooja-paath" (prayers) to maintain composure. Kohli’s playful reply—“Do I look the pooja-path types?"—left the room in fits of laughter. Reflecting on his evolution as a cricketer, Kohli had mentioned during the same press conference, “When I started, a lot about me was wrong. I was the tattoo guy, the one who wore stylish clothes. It is very easy to focus on the negative stuff, but I choose not to do that.”
He added, “The basic thinking is I want to improve as a cricketer every day. I make sure I do all the hard work and hope it pays off one day. I back myself to go out there and win the game.”
Kohli was seen carrying a digital Japa counter while they were at Premanand Ji Maharaj's ashram. Japa is a technique in which a mantra or a deity's name is repeatedly chanted. The gadget provides a practical substitute for conventional prayer beads or malas by assisting users in keeping track of how many times they have chanted the mantra.
Devotees today frequently use this digital Japa counter, which helps them stay focused during their spiritual practice by acting as a tracker and reminder.
