Actor Urmila Matondkar once again reminded fans why she remains the eternal face of Rangeela. She celebrated Rangeela's 30th anniversary today (September 8). On her social media, the 51-year-old star shared a video of herself dancing to the iconic title track of the film, instantly sparking nostalgia among those who grew up watching her transform into the nation’s dream girl in the 90s.
In the video, Urmila looked radiant in a floral dress with a dark blue paisley print against a white backdrop as she moved gracefully to A. R. Rahman’s unforgettable tune. Her caption, however, revealed more than just a dance, it was a heartfelt tribute to what Rangeela meant to her and to millions of moviegoers.
“Rangeela was never just a film, it was and still is a feeling,” she wrote. “Woven with intense joy, hope, dreams, ambition, beauty, zest, affection, admiration, love and desire, struggle and triumph, sacrifice, and above all, a grand celebration of life.”
Urmila explained how every scene and song from the 1995 Ram Gopal Varma-directed musical takes her back to a world of innocence and wonder. She described each track as more than just music, calling them an embodiment of the Navrasa, the nine emotions of Indian literature: love, laughter, sorrow, anger, courage, fear, disgust, wonder, and peace.
Reflecting on her journey, she added, “An innocent girl walks onto the silver screen and, with her charm and purity, captures hearts, taking the audience on a timeless journey of beauty, poetry, life, and love. Thirty years ago today, Rangeela became each one of yours. And even today, it has the power to transport you back to that very first moment.”
She closed her note with gratitude: “Thank you for letting me be a part of your lives, for embracing me with so much love, and for putting me in a place that only a few can even dare to dream of. Cheers to love, life and laughter. Ho ja Rangeela re.”
The post drew an overwhelming response from fans. Comments like “Madam your energy is really amazing,” “Oh goodness, you still look the same,” and a simple yet powerful “Queen” flooded her feed.
Urmila, who held her own alongside Aamir Khan and Jackie Shroff in Rangeela, became a style and dance icon through the film. Her performance set new standards for leading ladies in Hindi cinema.
Earlier this year, she was also spotted at the re-release screening of Satya in January 2025, joining director Ram Gopal Varma and co-star Manoj Bajpayee. With this new video, she once again proved that her connection with audiences hasn’t dimmed with time—it has only grown stronger.
