After Hollywood, the Labubu doll trend now seems to be taking over K-pop. The K-pop idols, including TWICE’s Jeongyeon, are starting to express their opinions about the trend
As fans scramble for the hard-to-find, wide-eyed figurines, Jeongyeon’s recent airport appearance and her comments on social media have ignited a new discussion about trends and consumer culture.
A video from TWICE’s recent airport visit is circulating online. In it, a fan hands Jeongyeon a Labubu, a viral collectable that has recently taken over social media and store shelves. She accepted the gift and walked away with it.
Later, on the fan messaging platform Bubble, she shared her honest thoughts. “I’m not interested in dolls,” she reportedly wrote. She also added, “Don’t fall for trends.”
However, Jeongyeon’s post soon went viral on social media. Some fans praised her straightforward attitude and called her an “anti-capitalist queen.” However, others were not as pleased. Critics noted that her comments could have hurt the fan who gave her the doll. Some remarked that another idol might have faced backlash for making similar comments.
For the unversed, the Labubu dolls are created from the Monsters series by Hong Kong-based brand POP MART, in partnership with artist Kasing Lung. With their mischievous grins and somewhat eerie, cute elf-like faces, these dolls have become a must-have item, especially among Gen Z collectors.

They are usually sold in blind boxes, which makes each purchase a gamble and raises resale prices for rarer versions. The Labubu phenomenon began in China and gained global popularity after celebrities like BLACKPINK’s Lisa were spotted with them. Recently, Lady Gaga showcased her own custom Labubu, created by fashion designer Marko Monroe.
