Music composer-singer Salim Merchant has teamed up with Arijit Singh for their latest song Sukoon, a track that he says is all about reminding people to pause and turn inward.

“The idea behind this song is to remind people that they need to look inwards, because every solution is within yourself,” Salim explained while speaking about the composition. “We just keep on searching for answers, but forget to look within ourselves. This song is a reminder that all the answers are within you. Our music is usually about that, but this song is more direct.”

The track has been composed by Salim-Sulaiman, with Arijit Singh lending his signature voice. Salim believes Arijit’s sincerity and artistry brought the essence of the song to life, making it more than just a piece of music. On Monday, Salim shared glimpses of their collaboration on Instagram, calling the entire experience “almost spiritual.”

He recalled how the journey of Sukoon took him to Jiaganj, West Bengal, earlier this year. It was Arijit who invited him to his hometown, and Salim described the atmosphere there as serene and grounding. The calmness of Jiaganj, the warmth of Murshidabad, and the homely setting turned out to be the perfect backdrop to record a song about inner peace.
“Can’t wait to come back to Jiaganj to feel the warmth of Murshidabad and taste your home cooked food with your family and your lovely team,” Salim wrote, sharing a candid picture with Arijit from the session.
