In a disturbing incident that sent shockwaves across Tamil Nadu, superstar Rajinikanth and his former son-in-law Dhanush were among the high-profile names to receive bomb threats through an anonymous email. The message, sent to the official email ID of the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP), claimed that explosives had been planted at their residences in Chennai.
Following protocol, the alert was immediately passed on to the Greater Chennai Police. Swift search operations were carried out at Rajinikanth’s Poes Garden bungalow, Dhanush’s Alwarpet home, and the residence of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief K. Selvaperunthagai.
Teams from the Teynampet police station, accompanied by the bomb detection and disposal squad, thoroughly inspected all three locations.
Fortunately, nothing suspicious was found.
Officials confirmed that the bomb alerts were hoaxes. The security staff at Rajinikanth’s residence also clarified that no strangers or unidentified vehicles had entered the premises in recent days. Similar checks at the other two homes yielded the same result.
A senior police officer stated, “The email threat was taken seriously, and all necessary procedures were followed. However, the search did not reveal any threat elements. It appears to be a fake alert.” The police have now begun tracing the IP address and origin of the email, which was sent from an anonymous account.
This is not the first time such hoax bomb threats have unsettled Chennai’s entertainment and political circles. Over the past few weeks, several celebrities have been targeted by similar false alarms. Earlier this month, police received emails claiming that bombs had been planted at actor Trisha’s home. On October 9, a 37-year-old man named Shabik was arrested for sending a fake bomb threat to actor Vijay’s residence in Neelankarai. Days later, a similar email falsely claimed that explosives were placed at music legend Ilaiyaraaja’s T Nagar studio.
