Rapper Kanye West, who legally changed his name to Ye in 2021, has reportedly changed his name again.
According to Page Six, Kanye West has officially changed his name to “Ye Ye,” as revealed in new California business filings submitted by his CFO, Hussain Lalani.
He was listed as "Ye West" in earlier filings, but "Ye Ye" is now listed as the manager or member of a number of his businesses, including Yeezy Apparel, Yeezy Record Label, LLC, and Getting Out Our Dreams Inc.
Ye hasn't made a public announcement about the name change, but on June 1, he made a suggestion about a change in his online persona, indicating a new stage in his public persona. His post on X read, “Ima finally stop using the @kanyewest twitter cause my name is Ye. Gonna start a ye account and it is what it is."
Kanye West had previously used “Ye” as the title of his 2018 album, which he recorded over several months at his ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
The name has since taken centre stage in his public and professional persona. To further support his preference for the name, his chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, wrote a letter in March 2024 asking the music industry and media to call him Ye.
Milo said, “Ye is one of the most recognizable people in the world, on par with presidents and popes. He didn’t take the decision to change his name, potentially sacrificing some of the immense value captured by the brand of ‘Kanye West,’ lightly. The change was made fully, legally, and permanently. This is who he is now. His name is Ye."
