The Supreme Court of India recently granted interim protection from arrest to YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia, following multiple FIRs filed against him for allegedly making obscene remarks during his appearance on India Got Latent.
The court condemned Allahabadia's comments, describing his language as "perverted" and "dirty," underlining the severity of the situation. Despite being granted temporary relief, Allahabadia was instructed to surrender his passport, cooperate with authorities in the ongoing investigation, and refrain from conducting any shows until further notice.
In a controversial defense, Chandrachud compared Allahabadia's remarks to those made by Nupur Sharma, claiming her statements were "much worse." This comparison sparked a wave of criticism on social media, with many users condemning both Chandrachud and Allahabadia for making the comparison.
During the court proceedings, Justice Suryakant voiced strong disapproval of Allahabadia’s statements. Allahabadia’s lawyer, Abhinav Chandrachud, argued that his client was receiving threats, including an acid attack threat aimed at a co-accused.
The courtroom exchange triggered a strong reaction from netizens, many of whom were shocked by Chandrachud’s attempt to compare Allahabadia’s remarks to those of Nupur Sharma. Social media comments flooded in, with users questioning the fairness of using Sharma's situation as a defense for Allahabadia, expressing disbelief over the comparison and its implications.
One user wrote on X, "Nupur Sharma faced legal FIRs,threats and got called by pseudo secularists for no reasons but for stating a fact against insult of her lord. But now ranveer allahbadia team is calling it worse in Supreme Court to get away from legalities. Audacity to compare with Nupur sharma!"
Another user posted, "Nupur Sharma’s life has become miserable due to threats from the STSJ gangs. She can’t even step out with peace in public life. Tragic that a lawyer is justifying her hounding by lynch mobs to defend his client, Beer Biceps."

Earlier today, the Supreme Court criticized Ranveer Allahbadia's conduct before granting him interim protection from arrest. While the court provided him relief, it also instructed that he refrain from accompanying the authorities to the police station.
