Rajinkanth and Kamal Haasan, two of Tamil cinema's greatest icons, may soon reunite after more than 40 years apart. The stalwarts are reportedly in advanced negotiations to star in director Lokesh Kanagaraj's next project, which has fans and industry insiders alike giddy.
The buzz comes at a pivotal point in the careers of both actors. While Kamal Haasan's ambitious film Thug Life failed to make an impression at the international box office, Rajinikanth's recent collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie, was met with mixed reviews. In light of this, the prospect of the two of them sharing the screen once more after 46 years has heightened expectations for a unique cinematic experience.
According to industry rumours, the two legends will play elderly gangsters in the high-budget production, which is probably supported by Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI).
Remarkably, this movie was originally planned prior to the Covid-19 pandemic but was put on hold because of unanticipated events. Filming is anticipated to start soon, and with negotiations reportedly back on track, the long-delayed dream may finally come to fruition.
Lokesh Kanagaraj's eagerly anticipated Kaithi 2, which stars Karthi, will be delayed if this project is approved. It is also rumoured that Lokesh and Aamir Khan have been negotiating a future partnership, but both projects might have to wait as the director focusses on what could be the largest casting choice in Indian cinema history.

Their last appearance together was in the 1979 film Alauddinum Albhuta Vilakkum.
