Asin, known for her role in Ghajini, married Micromax founder Rahul Sharma in 2016. However, it was later revealed that Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar played a key role in bringing them together. In a recent interview, Rahul opened up about how Akshay introduced them, sparking a connection that eventually led to their marriage.
In a recent appearance on Raj Shamani's podcast, Rahul Sharma shared intriguing details about his relationship with Asin. He revealed how Akshay Kumar played the role of a matchmaker, introducing him to Asin. Rahul also discussed their first meeting, how they connected instantly, and what made their bond so strong.
"We were going for an India vs Pakistan match (in 2012). Akshay's movie was coming up, Housefull (2), and she was acting in that movie. And then Akshay said, ‘There’s a movie coming. We want to promote the movie.' Since Micromax was the sponsor of Asia Cup, it was happening in Dhaka, Bangladesh. So if somebody asks me where you met your wife, I say the most romantic place on Earth – Dhaka (laughs)," said Rahul.
He further mentioned that during their first encounter at the match, he and Asin only exchanged greetings and didn't engage in much conversation. However, this brief interaction laid the foundation for a deeper connection that eventually blossomed into a relationship.
"Then Akshay said she's a girl who's very, very simple, down-to-earth, similar to you. She just comes, does her work, and goes back, very professional. Her mother is a doctor, father is into services, so fantastic. Then he gave her number to me and my number to her. He just felt there's so much common in us. We come from the same values and backgrounds," continued Rahul.
Rahul and Asin got married in 2016 and are proud parents to a seven-year-old daughter named Arin. Rahul referred to Akshay Kumar's matchmaking as "his greatest contribution" to his life. After their marriage, Asin decided to retire from acting, with her final film being Umesh Shukla's 2015 romantic comedy All Is Well.
In 2016, Akshay Kumar revealed that he had played matchmaker for Asin and Rahul. He shared, "I’ve been hiding this for three-and-a-half to four years. Yes, I got them to meet, and Jacqueline Fernandez was also a part of it, but she didn’t realize it because I played it very slyly," in an interview with Hindustan Times.

"It was during Housefull 2 and we were in Delhi. Don’t laugh, but we were playing hide and seek, and I made the two of them hide together in one cupboard. That is how it started and it is so nice that they are getting married now," he had said
On the work front, Akshay Kumar has an exciting slate of upcoming projects, including Housefull 5, Sky Force, Bhooth Bangla, Welcome to the Jungle, and an untitled film alongside R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday.
