Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda might be regretting his choice to turn down the lead role in Kuberaa, director Sekhar Kammula's most recent blockbuster starring Dhanush, if industry rumours are to be believed. Kuberaa, which released recently has Nagarjuna Akkineni and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles besides Dhanush.

According to sources, Vijay was first offered the part of Deva, a beggar with a strong arc. The actor from Dear Comrade is rumoured to have declined, though, out of concern that portraying a beggar might not appeal to his core audience, particularly in light of his recent poor box office performance.

Vijay was the most popular choice for Kammula, who had previously collaborated with him on Life is Beautiful. However, it was reported that the actor was unsure if the role fit his on-screen persona at this point in his career.

As per an article published in Gulte, after Vijay stepped down, Dhanush took over, and his performance is currently receiving a lot of praise. With a global box office total of over Rs 120 crore and accolades for Dhanush's transformational performance, Kuberaa has become an enormous success.
