The world was left in shock and sorrow when the news of Matthew Perry’s tragic death broke, with the actor passing away at the age of 54 due to drowning. Now, in a poignant tribute to the late Friends star, a new documentary is set to explore the circumstances surrounding his untimely passing.
The documentary, Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, aims to shed light on the tragic events that led to his death, offering fresh insights not only into his unexpected passing in October 2023 but also the ongoing criminal investigation tied to it.
The documentary, which is set to air on the streaming platform Peacock, reveals the tragic details that followed Perry’s death.
The opening trailer begins with an excerpt of a 911 call made after Perry was found unresponsive in his hot tub. The documentary features several commentators who express their disbelief at the loss of the actor, who was best known for his iconic role as Chandler Bing on the hit TV show Friends from 1993 to 2001.
It also includes interviews with people close to Perry, such as actor Morgan Fairchild, who portrayed his on-screen mother in Friends, and U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada, who is overseeing the criminal investigation. Fairchild reflects on the profound impact Perry had on people, saying, “He really touched people’s lives.”
The legal side of the documentary focuses on the ongoing investigation, where five individuals have been charged in connection with Perry’s death. These charges include two medical professionals, his assistant, an intermediary, and a suspected drug dealer, known as the “Ketamine Queen” of North Hollywood.
Following the release of the December autopsy report, which confirmed the presence of ketamine in Perry’s system, authorities changed their initial stance, noting that the situation was far more complex than originally believed. Estrada updates viewers on the case, stating, “The defendants have all been charged. Three of them have pled guilty and will be cooperating. Two remain.”
The documentary is set to provide deeper insights into Perry’s life and the shocking turn of events, with the trial of the doctor and the alleged drug dealer scheduled for 4 March 2025.
