Nayanthara's documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale, which premiered on Netflix on November 18, has sparked a mix of reactions from viewers. Among the critics is noted author Shobhaa De, who did not hold back in sharing her disapproval.

Taking to her Instagram account, Shobhaa De revealed that she hadn't heard of Nayanthara until the documentary's promotional material was released. In her post, De wrote, "Confession: I was not aware of the mega star power of the 'Lady Superstar,' Nayanthara, till I watched the promos of 'Beyond the Fairytale' on @netflix_in. I tried bravely to watch for 45 minutes, hoping SOMETHING would wake me up from the tedium of wading through dull clips of talking heads going on about Nayanthara (born Diana Kurien) and her incredible life. She is charming, articulate, poised ...and blah! But ...what the hell... after this, many more stars will go for monetizing their shaadi footage. Assuming she got paid for it. @nayanthara @netflix_in."

The documentary delves into the life of Nayanthara, highlighting her early years, her romantic journey with Vignesh Shivan, and the challenges she faced to become one of India's leading actresses. Directed by Amith Krishnan and produced by Netflix, the film aims to present an intimate glimpse into Nayanthara's personal and professional life.
