On June 3, 2024, NCT members Haechan and Johnny were embroiled in a scandalous controversy, accused of engaging in an orgy with fans at a
hotel in Japan. The allegations, which initially seemed farfetched, gained traction after screenshots of private Instagram stories posted by the involved girls surfaced online.
The controversy began when a Japanese nightlife industry figure shared incriminating posts on social media, claiming that Haechan and Johnny had participated in a five-way sexual encounter with three girls. The girls involved provided alleged "proof" in the form of photos showing a hotel room key and a coffee table laden with drinks and other items. They explicitly named Johnny and Haechan in their captions, describing the explicit nature of their encounter.
One of the most shocking images showed three girls' hands holding a hotel room key, accompanied by a caption reading, "Ah, I think I might
die. Save me LOL. Johnny and Haechan put their d*cks in me." This post, among others, was translated from Japanese to Korean and spread rapidly across social media platforms, fueling the controversy.
The girls claimed they were unaware of who they would be meeting until they arrived at the hotel room, having been summoned through a
Japanese "teco" service app, which facilitates paid encounters for drinks and sexual favours. Once they discovered it was Johnny and
Haechan, the girls mocked fans waiting outside the hotel, saying, "Love to see it. I’m really sorry, but while you guys were waiting there, I had Johnny and Haechan stick their d*cks in me. Sorry~"
Miu, one of the identified girls, was particularly active in meeting celebrities and allegedly studying in Korea. She posted various
screenshots, including a conversation with a friend about attending an NCT gathering. Another girl, Rio, was alleged to have had sexual
encounters with other NCT members and boasted about having compromising photos and footage that could "end them if leaked."
The scandal took a darker turn when it was suggested that NCT's manager had facilitated the encounter by providing the hotel key.
Despite initial suspicions that the materials seen in the photos were drugs, the girls clarified that they were actually items for a drinking game.
SM Entertainment responded swiftly to the allegations. In a statement, the company firmly denied all claims and announced their intention to take legal action against those spreading false rumours. The statement emphasised that the accusations were baseless and damaging to the artists' reputations.
"Currently, rumours surrounding Johnny and Haechan’s involvement with prostitution, drugs, and other indecent content are being reproduced
and spread online. After verifying the facts, these allegations are not true at all, and [these rumorus] are criminal acts that seriously
defame our artists," SM Entertainment stated. "We have already collected sufficient evidence regarding the posts in question and we
will not sit and do nothing. We will ensure the perpetrators spreading this information will be punished with no leniency or settlement, regardless of their nationality," read the statement.
