L3: The Beginning announced as final part of Mohanlal and Prithviraj's Lucifer, read to know the details

The third installment of the much-awaited Lucifer film franchise has finally been announced. Titled “L3: The Beginning,” the film continues the political thriller saga crafted by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. The title was revealed at the end of L2: Empuraan, which hit theatres on Thursday, March 27, 2025. While L2: Empuraan received mixed reviews, the excitement for the next part in the trilogy has already started building up.

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2: Empuraan is the direct sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer. The film dives deeper into Kerala’s political chaos while also exploring the transformation of Mohanlal’s character, Stephen Nedumpally, into the global power player Khureshi Ab’raam. According to the Hindustan Times, “Numerous social media users posted some spoilers from the film, including the fact that the sequel to L2 Empuraan has been titled L3 The Beginning.”

A Pinkvilla report, quoted in the article, further added that “L3: The Beginning is set to take the audience deeper into the world of power inhabited by Mohanlal’s Stephen Nedumpally.” The film is expected to explore international crime networks and expand on the global scope hinted at in Empuraan. The introduction of a new antagonist and a Chinese gang at the end of L2 suggests a broader narrative arc in L3.

The cast of L2: Empuraan includes Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Abhimanyu Singh, Indrajith Sukumaran, Jerome Flynn, Nikhat Khan Hegde, and others. It picks up the story five years after the events of Lucifer, with Prithviraj’s character Zayeed Masood and Stephen confronting new political threats while unraveling deeper layers of their own pasts.
