British musical prodigy Jacob Collier has never been one to sit within conventional boundaries. At 31, the Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist, often described as a “musical scientist” for his genre-blurring compositions and innovative harmonic experiments, continues to expand his global footprint. During his recent visit to India as part of his Djesse Vol. 4 World Tour, Jacob Collier spoke about his creative journey, his love for India, and a musical collaboration he hopes may one day materialise: working with BTS member Kim Taehyung (V).

Jacob, who has long been celebrated for transforming audiences into impromptu choirs during concerts, says performing in India has always been a grounding and energising experience. The musician described the country as a place that “surprises, anchors, and energises” him every time he returns.

While Jacob’s global collaborations range from Herbie Hancock to Chris Martin, one of his lesser-known contributions is his vocal presence on Coldplay and BTS’s smash hit My Universe. His signature style—layered, stacked harmonies, forms part of the song’s intricate backing vocals. Reflecting on the experience, he said to India Today, “It was so inspiring to see that song come to life with the very little contributions that I made.”

Speaking about Coldplay’s frontman, Jacob added, “Chris (Martin) has this amazing sense of bringing people together.”
